Seth Meyers Slams Donald Trump's Claims Over Kennedy Center Honors

Late-night host Seth Meyers has taken aim at former President Donald Trump for his recent claims about hosting the Kennedy Center Honors. In his "A Closer Look" segment, Meyers ridiculed Trump's story of being "begged" to host the event, labelling it a "fake conversation" and awarding Trump a sarcastic "Best Original Screenplay" for his explanation.

According to reports, Trump claimed that he initially dismissed the idea of hosting the Kennedy Center Honors, but later agreed after being asked by Susie Wiles, a board member of the Kennedy Center and White House Chief of Staff. Meyers, however, called this account fabricated.

The Kennedy Center Honors is an annual event that honours individuals for their contributions to the performing arts. The 2025 ceremony was announced by Trump, but no specific individuals were named as honorees.

Meyers also mocked other aspects of Trump's public commentary around the event. Trump had announced he would give himself a Kennedy Center award and stated he was banning "wokesters" from the ceremony. Meyers highlighted these statements as part of Trump's "rambling" announcement.

The comedian also joked about Donald Trump potentially creating a made-up award for himself, referencing Trump's claims about winning a Michigan "Man of the Year" award, which does not exist. Meyers even suggested a hypothetical award called the "Kennedy Center Lifetime Achievement Nobel Prize EGOT Award For Most Everything," which would be a golden statue of Trump receiving an award.

HuffPost, which has been providing unflinching, fact-based journalism for 20 years, is currently seeking support to continue its mission. Support for HuffPost is used to bolster the newsroom and keep the organization strong. As Meyers' satirical take on Trump's Kennedy Center Honors claims gained traction, HuffPost is asking for readers' support once again.

Meyers' late-night platform has become a popular space for addressing political matters, and his critique of Trump's Kennedy Center Honors claims is just one example of his continued efforts to discredit Trump's statements and behaviour.
