In a recent development, Rupert Murdoch, the media mogul residing in New York, is set to be deposed in the ongoing Epstein defamation lawsuit, despite his residence being in a different state. The deposition, scheduled to take place in Miami, Florida, is part of the legal battle involving Donald Trump, Rupert Murdoch, News Corp., and The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

The lawsuit, filed by Trump, stems from a Wall Street Journal article that mentioned a "bawdy" letter Trump wrote for Jeffrey Epstein’s 50th birthday, which included a cryptic message and was illustrated with a nude woman alongside Trump’s signature. Despite not accusing Trump of sexual misconduct, the article has triggered a defamation claim by the former president.

The expedited deposition request is primarily a strategic move tied to Murdoch’s health concerns, intended to preserve his testimony in this high-stakes defamation suit. With Murdoch being 94 years old and having experienced recent health scares, Trump’s legal team argues that the deposition should happen quickly to ensure Murdoch’s testimony is secured before his health deteriorates further and he may no longer be able to participate.

The Epstein defamation lawsuit is related to the late Jeffrey Epstein, who was accused of abusing numerous girls and young women and trafficking them to prominent figures. The lawsuit is currently ongoing in a Miami court, presided over by District Judge Darrin Gayles.

Meanwhile, many of Trump's supporters are frustrated that his administration has not fulfilled a promise to shed light on the Epstein scandal. In an attempt to appease his disgruntled supporters, Trump announced the release of legal documents in the case.

Interestingly, this is not the first time Murdoch and Trump have been involved in a legal battle. In the past, Murdoch was a defendant in a lawsuit filed by Trump.

District Judge Darrin Gayles has granted Murdoch’s lawyers until August 4 to respond to the request for an expedited deposition. The deposition of Rupert Murdoch is scheduled to take place in Miami, Florida, as planned.
