Trump Prepared to Dismiss U.S. Attorney for Opposing Attempt to Prosecute New York AG Letitia James, Insiders Reveal

In a surprising turn of events, President Donald Trump is expected to dismiss U.S. Attorney Erik Siebert for the Eastern District of Virginia. The decision comes amidst an ongoing investigation into New York Attorney General Letitia James for mortgage fraud, initiated by Bill Pulte. However, federal prosecutors in Virginia have uncovered no clear evidence of mortgage fraud by James.

Siebert, known for his dedication to public safety, has been at the helm of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Virginia since 2010. He has handled violent crimes, firearms trafficking, and even headed the office's organized drug crime task force. His tenure as interim U.S. attorney was extended beyond his 120-day term in May by the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.

The anticipated departure of Siebert has thrown the Eastern District of Virginia's prosecutor's office into disarray. Trump officials have reportedly pushed Siebert to bring criminal charges against Letitia James, despite the lack of evidence. This move has been met with criticism, with Abbe Lowell, an attorney for James, calling the expected firing a "brazen attack on the rule of law."

Meanwhile, Letitia James has been a thorn in Trump's side, successfully bringing a civil fraud case against him last year and leading multiple lawsuits challenging his administration's policies. Trump has repeatedly singled out Maya Song, the office's First Assistant United States Attorney, alleging without evidence that she played a leading role in directing federal prosecutions against him.

Ongoing investigations are also targeting Sen. Adam Schiff and Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, but the specifics of these investigations are not yet clear. The head of the DOJ anti-weaponization group has called on NY AG Letitia James to resign, adding to the political drama.

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Virginia serves over six million people with a staff of 300 prosecutors. The office often handles significant terrorism and intelligence-related cases due to its proximity to Washington and the multiple government offices in its jurisdiction. Despite the ongoing controversies, the office continues to uphold its commitment to justice and the protection of its citizens.
