Trump plans to impose tariffs on India, a key energy ally of Russia.

In a move aimed at pressuring countries that continue to buy Russian oil amid ongoing conflict and U.S. sanctions, President Donald J. Trump signed an Executive Order on August 6, 2025, imposing a 25% tariff on imports from India[1][2]. This tariff, effective starting August 27, 2025, is designed to address the national emergency posed by Russia's actions in Ukraine.

The tariff is an additional duty on top of any other existing fees or tariffs, except for certain articles exempted under prior Executive Orders. The White House announced a system to monitor other countries importing Russian oil, signaling potential future tariffs if similar imports occur.

The implications of this tariff threat are significant for India-U.S. trade relations and India’s oil supply strategy. The tariff could lead to increased costs for Indian goods exported to the United States, potentially reducing competitiveness. Diplomatic tensions may arise as India balances its energy security needs with geopolitical pressures. The move also sends a signal to other nations that the U.S. may expand such tariffs to further isolate Russia economically.

This move aligns with broader U.S. efforts to sanction Russia amidst the Ukraine war and to deter global purchases of Russian oil that undermine these measures[1][2]. Trump threatened India with at least 25 percent tariffs and an unspecified penalty at the end of July.

Elsewhere, the city of Fellbach is calling for vigilance due to the presence of the Asian tiger mosquito. This mosquito, which can carry dangerous diseases, has been found in Fellbach[3]. Meanwhile, Germany has deployed five fighter jets to Poland to support the Polish armed forces in monitoring the airspace[4]. The deployment is planned to last several weeks.

In a more light-hearted note, Helmut Duppel from Rutesheim found a picture of the Leonberger horse market in his barn, created 35 years ago. The picture, which is to be sold for a good cause, has captured public attention[5].

The deadline for a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, set by Trump, is still running. If the deadline passes without a ceasefire, Trump has threatened to impose sanctions on Russia's trading partners[6]. Trump's tariff threat against India is in response to India buying and reselling Russian oil on the open market.
