In a move that has sparked controversy, former President Donald Trump has suggested revoking TV stations' licenses, a power that lies with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). This proposal has raised eyebrows, particularly in light of the current FCC chairman, Brendan Carr, who has been in office since January 2025.

Carr's tenure has been marked by allegations of improper influence, with critics claiming he pressured media companies to cancel Jimmy Kimmel's show. However, there is no public record of Carr specifically influencing media support for Kimmel's show.

The FCC, it's worth noting, cannot engage in content censorship. Yet, the allegations against Carr have led some to call for his removal.

The relationship between Carr and Trump is not entirely clear-cut. While the conservative Fox News channel, which has been critical of former presidents Joe Biden and Barack Obama, has mostly praised Trump, Trump dismissed any criticisms of Carr, describing him as a 'patriot.'

The issue of media bias is not exclusive to the Kimmel situation. Other outlets like CNN have been criticised for not covering Biden's political blunders critically enough.

The FCC, established to issue licenses for radio and television broadcasts, is supposed to remain neutral. The allegations against Carr have raised questions about the impartiality of the FCC and the potential influence of political leaders on media decisions.

As the investigation into these allegations continues, the public awaits clarification on the relationship between Trump, Carr, and the decisions made by the FCC regarding TV stations' licenses.
