Trump opposes intermediate truce in Ukraine and insists on long-lasting peace agreement.

**"Looks like President Putin's called for a three-day truce in Ukraine," says White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt, "with the celebrations for Russia's Victory Day over Nazi Germany on the horizon."

While the President is hopeful about forging an agreement, Leavitt points out that he's staying realistic, stressing the need for direct negotiations between the American and Russian leaders to sort this mess out.

Russia's reportedly put the brakes on hostilities in Ukraine from May 8 to May 10. But here's the twist – it's a unilateral ceasefire, Putin's call, not a joint agreement.

Ukraine's yet to bite on this peace offering, citing Russia's continuous violations of the truce set during Easter 2025. The Ukrainians seem reluctant, possibly dubious about the sincerity of Putin's peace overture.

Remember, there's no apparent U.S. presidential involvement in this peace deal as of now. Putin's office is straight-up saying that if Ukraine breaches the truce, they'll face military retaliation."
