In Anchorage, Alaska, the historic meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin took place. Despite the constructive discussions, no ceasefire agreement in Ukraine was reached[1][2].

Trump expressed a desire for a ceasefire in Ukraine before boarding Air Force One. He mentioned that many points were agreed upon, with a few left to resolve, and planned to consult with European leaders and Ukraine's President Zelenskyy[1][2]. However, a formal ceasefire was not established.

The U.S. President emphasised that he is cooperating closely with Europe in negotiations with Putin. Yet, he did not specify the nature of these negotiations[1]. Trump's comments suggest a degree of independence from European influence in his dealings with Putin, but he also values their input in the negotiation process[1].

Putin, on the other hand, focused more on emphasizing the close neighborly ties between the U.S. and Russia and did not specifically elaborate on Ukraine[1]. Trump stated that European allies will be involved in the process of negotiations with Putin, but the extent of their involvement remains unclear[1].

Trump's comments indicate that he is open to working with European allies in negotiations with Putin, but he also asserted that they cannot dictate his actions. He mentioned that he would not be happy if the ceasefire does not happen on the day of the summit, but he is unsure if it will[1].

As the summit continues, the world awaits further developments regarding the ceasefire in Ukraine. Trump's comments suggest a commitment to finding a resolution, but the specifics of any proposed agreement remain to be seen.
