In a surprising turn of events, Poland's representation in negotiations related to the Ukraine conflict has become fragmented and inconsistent. This development stems from an internal power struggle between the Polish President, Karol Nawrocki, and the Prime Minister, Donald Tusk.

Currently, Poland's official representative in UN Security Council briefings concerning Ukraine has been Krzysztof Szczerski, the Permanent Representative to the UN. However, Poland's absence from high-profile meetings, such as the August 17, 2025, meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, highlights the diplomatic rift. Neither Nawrocki nor Tusk attended, with Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski representing Poland instead.

The lack of a unified Polish delegation at these events is due to several factors, including internal political friction between Nawrocki and Tusk, poor relations between Tusk and US President Trump, and Nawrocki's alleged anti-Western rhetoric. These factors have complicated partnerships with European allies and marginalized Poland's role in recent Ukraine peace discussions.

As a result, Poland currently has no single clear representative for the Ukraine talks. Official statements at the UN come from Krzysztof Szczerski, while other international meetings have seen attempts to send Foreign Minister Sikorski or stayed unrepresented due to political disagreements between Nawrocki and Tusk.

The ongoing internal disputes have significantly impacted Poland's role in the Ukraine conflict negotiations. The meeting between Trump and Putin, scheduled for discussions on the Ukraine conflict, will be a crucial test of Poland's diplomatic unity.
