Trump-Musk Feud Escalates: Musk Admittes Overstepping Boundaries - Trump-Musk feud de-escalates: "I overstepped my bounds"

Elon Musk, the billionaire tycoon behind SpaceX, Tesla, and X, expressed regret over some of his comments about former President Donald Trump, acknowledging he "overstepped bounds." However, he didn't specify the exact statements he regretted.

Donald Trump's press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, noted Trump had taken note of Musk's apology. She stated there's no plan to scrutinize contracts between Musk's firms and the government, as Trump previously hinted at.

According to the New York Times, Musk's change of heart followed a late-night phone conversation with Trump on Monday. Vice President JD Vance and Trump's Chief of Staff Susan Wiles were reportedly mediating their disagreement.

Musk had been vocal about his disapproval of Trump's fiscal strategies, claiming they would plunge America into financial ruin. He also implied a connection between Trump and the sex abuse scandal involving Jeffrey Epstein, but later deleted the comment on social media.

Afterward, Trump cautioned Musk not to penalize Republicans who supported his "Big Beautiful Bill" budget. Trump considered Musk's actions "disrespectful," but didn't elaborate on potential repercussions.

Musk initially aligned with Trump’s MAGA (Make America Great Again) movement in 2024, spending approximately $280 million on his election campaign. In exchange, Trump appointed Musk as his special advisor after winning the election, entrusting him with drastic reductions in government spending. However, Musk failed to deliver.

By the end of May, Musk stepped down from his advisory position. Subsequently, he escalated his criticism of Trump's budget plans, arguing that they would push America towards bankruptcy and heighten national debt.

The tension between the two powerhouses arose during Chancellor Friedrich Merz's (CDU) visit to Washington: Trump referred to Musk as having "lost his marbles." Earlier, Musk had claimed that Trump wouldn't have won the 2020 election without his support.
