Despite the 22nd Amendment shutting the door on a third term for President Donald Trump, bettors still haven't thrown in the towel. The former casino tycoon is reportedly orchestrating a power play to bypass the constitutional limitations.

The Trump Store, the official retail site of The Trump Organization, recently flung open its virtual doors with red-colored apparel and merchandise emblazoned with "Trump 2028." The Trump 2028 merchandise includes a T-shirt, hat, and koozies. The merch boasts the Trump 2028 T-shirt with the message, "Bend the rules."

The Trump 2028 hat will set you back $50, the T-shirt will cost you $36, and two koozies are $18.

Just a month ago, Trump declared he wasn't kidding about mulling a third term. To make it happen, Congress would need to pass an amendment to Amendment 22 with a two-thirds majority in each chamber. Subsequently, three-fourths of the state legislatures would then need to ratify the amendment to alter the United States Constitution.

2028 Odds

On Kalshi, the prediction market exchange regulated by the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), bettors bet that Trump has a 14% chance of running for the presidency again through a 22nd Amendment modification or the Supreme Court reinterpreting the 22nd Amendment to permit an individual to be elected more than twice.

The contract has attracted around $84K in wagers. In early April, those odds were higher at 20%. Amazingly, according to Kalshi, Trump is the betting favorite to be the Republican vice president in 2028 at 9%.

Current VP JD Vance is the betting front-runner to be the GOP's presidential nominee at 43%. More than $1.5 million has been wagered on the 2028 Republican presidential nominee market. Following Vance, former congresswoman and current National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard is at 11%, and Trump is third at 10%.

There's also speculation that the 2028 Trump gear could be promoting a possible presidential run from one of the president's kids, particularly Donald Trump Jr. Kalshi bettors think Trump Jr. has a 6% chance of being the GOP's presidential nominee.

In the UK, where betting on politics is legal, William Hill has Vance favored at 9/4. Trump follows at 5/1, and Pennsylvania's Democratic Governor, Josh Shapiro, is third at 10/1. California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom is fourth at 12/1, and former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, alongside Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York), round out the top five at 14/1.

On X, Eric Trump reposted a comment from a conservative pundit that read, "Everybody is losing their minds over the Trump 2028 hat. It's obviously a troll move. No, President Trump will not run again. Stop whining."

22nd Amendment Legislation

In January, US Representative Andrew Ogles (R-Tennessee) placed House Joint Resolution 29, a proposal to amend the US Constitution "to provide that no person shall be elected to the office of the president more than three times." Despite the introduction, no action has been taken on HJR29. It remains stuck in the House Judiciary Committee.

Enrichment Data:There's a movement afoot to amend the 22nd Amendment to grant President Donald Trump a third term. Recently, Rep. Andy Ogles, a Republican from Tennessee, has publicly advocated for a constitutional amendment that would allow Trump to serve a third term as president. Alongside this, there's ongoing discussion among Trump supporters, including his former campaign manager Steve Bannon, MAGA Republicans in the House, and certain politicians, advocating for Trump to pursue a third term regardless of the 22nd Amendment's limitations. This push includes the introduction of legislation aimed at permitting a third term, as well as symbolic gestures like proposing to place Trump's image on Mount Rushmore and recognizing his birthday as a national holiday.1
