Trump's State Visit to the U.K.: A Celebration of the Special Relationship
President Donald Trump is currently on a state visit to the U.K., marking his second visit to the country, having been previously hosted by the late Queen Elizabeth II in 2019. This time, King Charles III is hosting Trump during his visit.
The state dinner was a grand affair, with various special guests in attendance. These included Steve Schwarzman (Blackstone CEO), Rupert Murdoch, Tim Cook (Apple CEO), Jensen Huang (Nvidia CEO), and Sam Altman (OpenAI CEO).
Trump and Melania Trump attended a state banquet with the royal family in Windsor, where King Charles III focused on the special relationship between the U.S. and the U.K. during his remarks. Charles mentioned America’s upcoming 250th anniversary and the closeness of the two countries, saying "The ocean may still divide us, but in so many ways we are now the closest of kin."
During his remarks, Trump thanked Charles, mentioned his efforts to preserve history, uplift the poor, and support soldiers. He also commented on the health and beauty of Kate Middleton and praised the U.K.’s historical accomplishments.
The Beating Retreat musical performance was performed for the first time during a state visit, and at least 200 military personnel were involved. The Red Arrows, the Royal Air Force display team, performed a flyover at the end of the state dinner, releasing red, white, and blue smoke.
A choir of small children performed during a service that the Trumps attended at St. George’s Chapel. The Trumps also laid a wreath on the tomb of Queen Elizabeth II during the service.
Thursday, Trump is scheduled to meet with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at Chequers, the prime minister’s official country residence in Aylesbury. A crowd gathered in central London to protest Trump during his visit.
The Trumps were greeted at Windsor Castle by Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton. Trump said the bond between America and the U.K. is irreplaceable. At the end of his remarks, Charles proposed a toast to the Trumps.
During their visit, the Trumps explored Windsor Castle and viewed historical items from the Royal Collection. It was a memorable state visit, reaffirming the special relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom.
