Trump may propose providing Putin with raw materials as a means to halt the ongoing war

The upcoming meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin is preparing for economic incentives that could potentially end the war in Ukraine. According to reports, Donald Trump is offering Vladimir Putin access to rare earth minerals in Ukraine’s Russian-occupied territories and opening up Alaska’s natural resources—particularly oil and gas reserves—to Russia [1][2].

These incentives also involve lifting some sanctions on Russia's aviation industry [1][2]. The rare earth minerals, notably lithium, are highly valuable, with Ukraine believed to hold about 10% of the world’s lithium reserves, which could be crucial for global industries [2].

Trump’s offer is accompanied by a warning of "severe consequences" if Putin does not agree to cease the conflict [1]. The plan has been reviewed by U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, who is reportedly working on concessions, including the possibility of founding new mining companies in cooperation with Russia [1][2].

However, the proposal has faced criticism from some U.S. politicians, including Republican Senator Dan Sullivan of Alaska, who opposes granting Russia access to Alaska's resources [2].

In a separate development, the Ukrainian center for combating disinformation claims that Putin is bringing "historical material" in the form of old maps to the meeting with Donald Trump. According to the center, these maps are being used by Putin to justify his military aggression against Ukraine [1]. The statement from the Ukrainian center notes that most modern countries were once part of other states, and historical facts cannot form the basis for territorial claims or justify armed aggression against other countries.

Meanwhile, Putin has repeatedly claimed valuable minerals found in the occupied territories. He is reportedly envisioning entering new arms control agreements, as he himself said at a preparatory meeting [1].
