President Trump Pushes Forward with White House Ballroom Expansion

In a recent press conference about crime in Washington D.C., President Donald Trump mentioned a plan to build a new ballroom at the White House, estimated to cost $200 million. Contrary to speculation, Trump has not expressed interest in expanding the White House briefing room; rather, he has focused on building a large White House ballroom to accommodate major events.
The new ballroom, spanning approximately 90,000 square feet, will accommodate around 650 seated guests, more than triple the existing capacity of the East Room (200 guests). This addition aims to solve the long-standing issue that the White House lacks a large enough event space for hosting major functions honoring world leaders without installing a large tent.
Trump jokingly rejected the idea of making a larger briefing room, indicating no serious interest in expanding the press briefing space. However, he has shown strong commitment to constructing the ballroom, selecting McCrery Architects to preserve the classical design of the White House while solving this practical capacity problem.
The press briefing room was filled wall-to-wall with reporters, with one journalist noting that this was the most people they've ever seen in the briefing room. Leavitt confirmed that this was the most packed briefing and suggested the need for a larger space like a ballroom.
The ballroom addition will be located approximately 100 yards away from the main building's entrance. The project will stay true to the classical design of the White House, as evidenced by the rendering provided in this article.
Last month, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that the new ballroom will be a "much-needed and exquisite addition." The ballroom is intended for hosting official events, state dinners, and large ceremonial gatherings.
President Trump has announced plans to use private funding to build the new ballroom addition to the White House. While the project has not yet received final approval, it is moving forward with the design and planning phases.
