Trump is set to welcome Erdogan, with the president expressing that their relationship has consistently been strong throughout.

In a potential shift in relations, the United States and Turkey are poised to sign new agreements, according to reports. The deals, set to be finalized as early as next week, could include pledges to buy more US liquefied natural gas and significant orders for up to 250 commercial aircraft and additional F-16 fighter jets.

The anticipated agreements come after a series of diplomatic exchanges. US President Donald Trump announced a planned visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to the White House on September 25. The meeting, following the UN General Assembly in New York, is expected to provide a platform for discussions on trade and military deals, including the potential purchase of Boeing aircraft, an F-16 deal, and the continuation of F-35 talks.

The planned visit and the upcoming agreements mark a potential resolution to the long-standing F-35 stealth fighter dispute, which arose due to Turkey's expulsion from the programme in 2019 following its purchase of the Russian S-400 missile defense system. Despite US threats of sanctions, Turkey has repeatedly expressed its intention to use the Russian system.

The diplomatic thaw also follows a contentious issue: the recognition of the Armenian Genocide. Biden's plan to recognize the genocide was met with a strong response from Turkey, with Erdogan asking Biden to reverse his declaration and Turkey summoning the US ambassador.

Despite these challenges, Trump expressed a positive relationship with Erdogan, stating that he looks forward to seeing him on September 25. Erdogan, for his part, had a positive approach on the F-16 sale during his discussions with Trump.

As the world watches, the upcoming meetings and agreements between the US and Turkey promise to shape the future of their relationship.
