Trump is reportedly blocking Newsom, a Democrat, from ensuring free elections.

California Governor Gavin Newsom: A Vocal Opponent to Trump's Policies

California Governor Gavin Newsom, who has been in office since 2019, has emerged as a prominent critic of President Donald Trump's administration. His outspoken opposition stems from what he perceives as a radical approach by the Trump administration towards critics in government, media, culture, and society.

Newsom has been vocal about his disapproval of leaders who he believes are acting like corporations and billionaires, choosing to navigate the current political climate without standing up against Trump. He finds it shocking that more people are not raising their voices against Trump's actions.

The governor has praised Trump for his efficiency but has criticized his vengeful rhetoric, which he believes could further escalate tensions following a fatal attack on right-wing US activist Charlie Kirk. Newsom has compared a potential Trump-led election to one in the style of Russian President Vladimir Putin, suggesting it would be simulated, not fair, and not open.

Newsom fears that incumbent Donald Trump may not allow a free and fair election in 2024. He has expressed concern that everything is crumbling under Trump's administration, not just daily or weekly, but every day. The governor describes the current moment as a "hellish" one and expresses deep concern about the coming weeks and months for the country.

Trump currently holds the parliament, courts, and is deploying the military domestically. Newsom believes that many leaders are caving in easily and quickly to Trump's policies. The president is attacking universities, scientists, and making culture and institutions that promote free thought subservient.

Despite this, Newsom has not been critical of other state leaders for not resisting President Trump's policies enough. Instead, he has clashed with Trump, particularly over immigration policy and the decision to send National Guard and Marines to quell protests in the Los Angeles area, which Newsom described as deliberate lawbreaking by the federal government.

There is no information to suggest that Newsom has received significant support or aid from other countries in his opposition to Trump and Trumpism. In fact, he has expressed disappointment by the lack of resistance from other countries' leaders against Trump's policies.

However, there are rumours circulating that Newsom is being considered as a potential Democratic candidate for the 2028 US presidential election. Whether or not he decides to run, one thing is certain: Newsom will continue to be a vocal opponent to President Trump's policies.
