The much-anticipated meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin took place on August 15, 2025, at Joint Base Elmendorf–Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska. This historic summit marked the first face-to-face interaction between the two leaders since June 2019 and the first meeting between them as sitting presidents since Trump's re-election in 2024.

Location and Venue

The summit was held at Joint Base Elmendorf–Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska, making it the first time Putin was invited to a Western country since the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

Agenda

The main topic of discussion was the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian War. Key global security issues and the conflict in Ukraine were expected to be on the agenda.

Schedule

The meeting started at 11:00 AM local time, as reported by the White House. The summit included a private conversation between the two leaders during a car ride, known as "The Beast," before the formal meeting.

Outcome

The summit ended without an official agreement being announced. However, President Trump later suggested that Ukraine should cede territory to end the war.

Karoline Leavitt, Trump's spokesperson, announced the details of the meeting. Anchorage, the largest city in the northernmost state of the United States, was chosen as the venue for the meeting, which is scheduled for Friday morning (local time). The meeting schedule is still being worked out, and a one-on-one meeting between Trump and Putin has been confirmed. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss Russia's military aggression against Ukraine. President Trump will depart for the meeting soon.
