Trump Bumps TikTok Sale Deadline Again by 90 Days
Trump prolongs TikTok acquisition deadline by 90 days - Trump extends the specific timeline for the sale of TikTok by an additional 90 days.
Alright folks, here's the lowdown!
This time last year, a U.S. law kicked in, commanding Bytedance to flog TikTok. The reason behind it all? Allegations that this Chinese company is using TikTok like a digital peeping tom, spying on its users for the Chinese government.
trump spokesperson Leavitt said the aim of the sale is to ensure "Americans can keep using TikTok with the peace of mind knowing their data is safe and secure." This latest extension until autumn allows the U.S. government to wrap up the sale.
This is Trump's third extension for a TikTok sale. When he first hung up his shingle in January, he suspended a ban on TikTok from U.S. app stores for 75 days. Then he dangled another 75 days back in April.
During his first term, which wound up in early 2021, ol' TikTok was a target for ol' Trump. But now, he seems to reckon the platform's gazillion U.S. users could help him win the hearts and minds of young voters. In his 2024 presidential campaign, Trump is zeroing in on all things online.
The President has been waxing lyrical about TikTok: "TikTok's got a little special spot in my heart," Donald told NBC News a month back.
