Trump expresses well wishes towards Musk: "He's doing great, keep it up"
The relationship between Donald Trump and Elon Musk is ice-cold and out in the open, filled with taunts and barbs. Trump expressed little enthusiasm for patching things up with the tech mogul, stating that he's swamped and Musk's antics simply aren't on his radar. "I wish him the best," Trump declared, keeping it casual aboard Air Force One.
Their falling out has generated plenty of buzz. Recent disagreements around a fiscally conservative tax and budget bill has set them on a collision course. Musk has been lobbying for drastic cuts, while Trump remains a supporter of the proposed legislation.
Public Verbal Spats
Trump, undeterred by diplomatic propriety, took to Thursday to fire off at Musk, calling him "nuts" after days of Musk's scathing critiques. Musk retaliated with sharp jabs on his Twitter-esque platform X, targeting the President's policies and motives. Among other things, Musk pondered the creation of a new centrist political party on X and questioned Trump's climb to the presidency without Musk's backing[1].
However, sources close to Musk shared that the Tesla and SpaceX CEO was trying to patch things up with Trump. Since then, Musk has dialed down the confrontations on X, but he hasn't shied away from criticizing Trump's tax plan or the need for a centrist political movement in the States[2].
Before the breakdown, Musk had invested heavily in Trump's campaign and earned the trust of the Republican party. He even spearheaded the cost-cutting committee Doge, implementing major cost-saving measures and job cuts[3].
Legal Battles in the Shadows
Meanwhile, the U.S. government has won preliminary access rights to sensitive data from the Social Security Administration, despite an ongoing legal dispute with Doge, the cost-cutting committee led by Musk[4]. Under the Supreme Court's ruling, employees of Doge now have temporary access to information such as Social Security numbers, birth dates, addresses, and, in some cases, sensitive health details[4].
The presidential feud, revelations of political intrigue, and legal maneuverings paint a high-stakes landscape, as these two colossal figures tussle for influence and power.
