Trump-Putin Meeting to Focus on Ukrainian Conflict Resolution
Trump expresses reluctance to establish boundaries with Russia.
In an effort to resolve the ongoing Ukrainian conflict, President Trump is set to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Anchorage, Alaska on August 15, 2025. This meeting comes following President Trump's calls for both Ukraine and Russia to discuss humanitarian issues directly with each other.
According to a White House representative, Levitt, President Trump is keen on improving Russia-US relations. However, no specific red lines have been set for the President.
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the peaceful resolution of the Ukrainian conflict. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has emphasized that ending the conflict requires a full peace deal involving both Russia and Ukraine, not just a ceasefire.
Discussions between Trump and Putin have touched on increasing the level of representation in negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. Reaching a deal requires both sides to give and receive concessions, a challenge that has been evident throughout the conflict.
Progress has been made in the discussions between Ukraine and Russia, as evidenced by several prisoner exchanges following direct talks between Russian and Ukrainian delegations in Istanbul.
However, Russian President's assistant Yuri Ushakov has confirmed that a trilateral meeting between Putin, Trump, and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky was discussed, but Moscow prefers to focus on preparing the bilateral summit. The bilateral summit between Trump and Putin will be the primary focus, according to Ushakov.
The upcoming meeting is part of ongoing efforts to resolve the Ukrainian conflict. Despite the lack of confirmed details about the meeting's location and date, President Trump has expressed interest in arranging a trilateral summit following his recent communications with both Putin and Zelensky.
