Trump expresses no culpability towards Ukrainians regarding the ongoing dispute
In a series of statements on Truth Social, former US President Donald Trump has expressed his displeasure with the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and placed blame on the leaders involved.
In January, Trump stated that he would have prevented the start of the Russia-Ukraine conflict if he were president. He reiterated this sentiment in April, claiming that the conflict was a mistake. Trump also expressed his belief that the conflict should not have started and called for an end to the hostilities.
Trump has been critical of Russian President Vladimir Putin, stating that Putin 'let him down' regarding the resolution of the conflict. He has also accused Putin, along with US President Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, of being responsible for the start of the Ukrainian conflict.
In April, Trump attributed the start of the Ukrainian conflict to a mistake, stating that 'the mistake was allowing the war to start.' He has also expressed his disappointment that Putin has not yet been able to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has commented on Trump's words, stating that Putin is making efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine through political and diplomatic means. Peskov added that Putin remains ready and willing to do so.
It is worth noting that the US President who was in office when the Ukraine conflict began with Russia's invasion on February 24, 2022, was Joe Biden.
Trump has also shown empathy towards the Ukrainian people, stating that he does not blame them for being tired of the fighting. He responded to a poll showing that less than a quarter of Ukrainian citizens support the continuation of military actions, expressing understanding for their fatigue.
Trump's comments about the conflict in Ukraine have been published by the White House press service. It is unclear at this time whether Trump plans to offer any further commentary on the situation.
