Trump, ex-U.S. president, introduces $99 NFT series
In a recent development, the Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) has released a collection of digital trading cards featuring former US President Donald Trump in various roles. These Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) are being sold for $99 each, with the funds explicitly stated not to be used for Trump's political campaign.
The NFTs, dubbed as "distinctive" assets in the digital world, have no tangible form and are "very much like a baseball card, but ideally a lot more exciting," according to Trump himself. Purchasers of these digital trading cards will be entered into a sweepstake, with the possibility of winning prizes such as a gala dinner or a game of golf with the former president.
However, the release of these NFTs has sparked controversy and speculation. Some believe that the sale is to fund Trump's legal battles, a claim that the website vehemently denies, stating that the NFTs are not political and have nothing to do with any political campaign.
Critics, including Steve Bannon, a former chief strategist for Trump, have voiced concerns about the potential risks associated with NFTs. Bannon, in particular, has criticised the NFTs on his podcast, stating that anyone associated with them should be terminated.
US President Joe Biden has also weighed in on the matter, commenting on Twitter about Trump's recent statements, including the sale of NFTs. Biden has made his own significant statements recently, such as reducing inflation and authorizing a marriage equality bill.
NFT INT LLC, the company behind the digital trading cards, is not owned, managed, or regulated by Donald J. Trump, The Trump Organization, CIC Digital LLC, or any of their respective principals or affiliates. This is to ensure transparency and maintain the integrity of the NFTs.
The digital trading cards include "impressive ART of [Trump's] Life & Occupation!" as claimed by Trump. The collection features him in various roles, including a superhero, astronaut, and Nascar driver.
Last month, Trump announced his third bid for the White House. Whether the sale of these NFTs will impact his political ambitions remains to be seen. However, one thing is clear: the world of digital collectibles continues to evolve, and Trump's entry into the NFT market is a testament to that.
