Casey Wasserman, the president of LA28, the organisation responsible for planning the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles, has stated that the establishment of a task force marks an important step forward in the planning efforts for the event. Wasserman expressed a goal to deliver not just the biggest, but the greatest Games the world has ever seen in the summer of 2028.

The task force, established by President Donald Trump, is responsible for federal coordination of security, planning, transportation, and visa processing related to the Games. Trump himself chairs the task force, with Vice President JD Vance as Vice Chair, and includes Cabinet-level officials from key federal agencies such as Defense, Homeland Security, State, FBI, Justice, and Transportation.

The task force will coordinate security planning with federal, state, and local officials to ensure safety during the Games. It will oversee transportation logistics and related infrastructure coordination, and streamline visa processing and credentialing for foreign athletes, coaches, officials, and media to facilitate smooth entry and operations.

President Trump has emphasised his readiness to involve military resources alongside local and federal law enforcement to maintain order during the event. He stated that he would use the National Guard or military if necessary to keep the Olympic Games safe.

Funding for security and related city services, such as police, fire, and sanitation, will be supported by a $1 billion appropriation included in recent tax and spending legislation signed by Trump.

The 2028 Summer Games are not the only major sporting event that Trump is looking forward to in his second term. He has also expressed excitement about the 2026 FIFA World Cup being hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The governments of the three countries held the first meeting of a trilateral coordinating council in preparation for the World Cup, discussing a variety of issues, including preparedness for any security threats ahead of the event.

Sports are one of President Trump's greatest passions, according to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt. During a signing event, LA28 president and chair Casey Wasserman presented Trump with a set of medals from the 1984 Olympic Games held in Los Angeles.

Trump has also stated that the United States will ensure that men do not steal trophies from women at the 2028 Olympics. However, it is unclear what specific measures will be taken to prevent such an occurrence.

In summary, the federal task force leads a comprehensive effort on security, planning, visa facilitation, and transportation for the 2028 Olympics, with potential military and National Guard involvement to ensure safety. The task force's work is part of a larger picture of the United States' preparation for major sporting events in the coming years.

The task force, overseen by President Trump, is working to streamline visa processes and ensure safety during the 2028 Summer Games, coordinating with various agencies and law enforcement. Trump, known for his fondness for sports, has expressed enthusiasm for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Olympics, passionately stating that the United States will take measures to prevent men from stealing trophies from women at the Olympics.
