Trump ends UK state trip expressing gratitude towards his hosts, minimally addressing contentious topics

President Donald Trump's second state visit to the UK was marked by a series of significant meetings and agreements. One of the most notable was the historic agreement on science and technology signed with Prime Minister Keir Starmer. This agreement, expected to result in significant job gains, was the focus of a roundtable discussion between Trump, Starmer, and global business leaders.

US companies have pledged 150 billion pounds ($204 billion) in investment in the UK, with 90 billion pounds ($122 billion) coming from investment firm Blackstone over the next decade. These investments are set to bolster the UK's economy and create new opportunities.

During the visit, Trump and Starmer held cordial discussions about various topics, including Britain's impending move to recognise a Palestinian state. The leaders had a productive conversation on this matter, reflecting a willingness to engage on complex international issues.

However, the visit was not without incident. A helicopter carrying Trump experienced a minor hydraulic issue, necessitating an unscheduled landing at a local airfield. Despite this, Trump expressed gratitude for the pageantry and splendour of his visit.

In a news conference, Trump praised the king and queen of England, calling them 'two fantastic people.' He also urged Britain to take a harder line on immigration policy, a topic that was also discussed in private talks between the two leaders. Other private discussions included the wars in Ukraine and Gaza, and US tariff rates on steel imported from Britain.

Despite the lack of information regarding who visited the British Environment Minister in the USA in any given May, Trump's state visit to the UK was marked by a series of important agreements and discussions that could shape the future of UK-US relations.
