Trump Encounters Monarch, Met by Thousands of Demonstrators during UK Trip
President Donald Trump is currently in the U.K. for a state visit, marking his second visit by a British monarch. The visit, which is set to highlight and renew the special relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom, began with a grand ceremonial welcome at Windsor Castle.
Upon arrival at Windsor Castle aboard Marine One, Trump and Melania Trump were greeted by Prince William and Kate Middleton in the castle's Walled Garden. The guard of honor at Windsor was the largest ever organized for a state visit to the U.K., with around 1,300 members of the British armed forces and 120 horses taking part.
The ceremonial welcome was followed by a Beating Retreat ceremony, which was performed for the first time at a state visit. At least 200 military personnel were involved in the ceremony, and it ended with a flyover from the Red Arrows, the Royal Air Force display team. The Red Arrows' planes released red, white, and blue smoke from their engines during the flyover, adding a colourful touch to the proceedings.
Trump and Melania Trump then observed a ceremonial reception at Windsor Castle, and later visited St. George’s Chapel. A choir of small children performed during the service at St. George’s Chapel, adding a heartwarming element to the visit. Trump and some of his key advisors also visited the chapel.
The visit to Windsor Castle was to meet with King Charles III. The visit will also recognize and celebrate the upcoming 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.
The visit will continue on Thursday, with Trump meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at Chequers. The meeting is expected to focus on a multibillion-dollar economic agreement on technology and nuclear energy, as well as ongoing issues such as the Russian war against Ukraine and the Gaza conflict.
Additionally, a joint U.S.-British flypast of F-35 fighter jets is planned to greet Trump during his visit. A protest against Trump took place in central London, with many protesters holding anti-Trump signs and Palestinian flags, demonstrating the varied reactions to the visit.
The White House officials have stated that the visit will emphasize the enduring bond between the United States and the United Kingdom, and will serve as a testament to the strong relationship between the two nations.
