In 1996, Donald Trump, the future U.S. president, made a trip to Moscow, a city where he was relatively unknown at the time. During this visit, Trump attended a formal dinner, where an intriguing character was also present - Vladimir Permyakov, a Russian actor known for his role in MMM ads.

However, contrary to some speculations, there is no verified or credible information confirming any meeting or direct interaction between Trump and Permyakov during this 1996 Moscow visit. Despite Trump's active involvement in international business and real estate during the 1990s, public records and reputable sources do not document a meeting with Permyakov, who is not publicly known for political or business interactions with Trump.

Trump's primary objective during this visit was to explore the possibility of constructing an elite residential complex for foreign businessmen. The proposed project, with an estimated investment of $300 million, aimed to create a luxurious hotel. This was not the first time Trump had his sights set on Russia. In 1987, he made his first visit to the USSR, where he expressed his interest in building a similar project.

At the 1996 dinner, Trump was reportedly reserved and did not cause any conflicts, according to Permyakov's account. A famous photograph from the event captures Trump, glass in hand, reaching for hors d'oeuvres, while Permyakov, with a bottle likely containing champagne, stands in the background.

Trump's visit to Moscow in 1996, however, did not result in the materialization of his planned project. In November of the same year, Trump returned to Moscow with representatives from U.S. tobacco, but the details of their discussions remain unclear.

In a twist of history, Trump would later become the second president in U.S. history to secure re-election after a defeat, following his win in the 2024 presidential election. Despite the unrealized plans of his Moscow venture, Trump's global impact continued to resonate, shaping the political landscape of the United States and beyond.
