Trump Duo Pays Respects at Queen Elizabeth's Burial Site (President Trump, Melania Trump)
In a historic visit, President Trump and First Lady Melania paid their respects to the British Royal Family, exchanging gifts and laying a wreath at St George's Chapel.
The Presidential couple gifted King Charles a replica of a President Eisenhower Sword, symbolising the strong relationship between the two nations. King Charles, in turn, had gifted Trump a bespoke, hand bound leather volume and the Union Flag that flew above Buckingham Palace on Trump's inauguration day.
St George's Chapel, a place of significant historical importance, played host to the visit. It was here where the burial service for Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip took place in 2022 and 2021, respectively. The Queen, Prince Philip, and her parents, George VI and Queen Elizabeth, are buried in the King George VI Memorial Chapel, alongside Princess Margaret's ashes.
The Dean of Windsor, the Rt. Rev. Christopher Cocksworth, and the Chapter Clerk, Charlotte Manley, greeted the President and First Lady at St George's Chapel. The wreath-laying at the grave of Queen Elizabeth was a rare private moment amidst the ceremony of the day's events.
Trump described visiting St George's Chapel as a 'great honour.' Melania received a silver bowl from a Northern Irish designer and a personalized Anya Hindmarch handbag. The Queen, during President Trump's state visit, was presented with a Tiffany & Co. Vintage 18K Gold, Diamond & Ruby Flower Brooch.
The State Visit saw the largest military welcome in living memory for a visiting head of state. However, the involvement of U.S. and U.K. F-35 fighter jets in the flyover was cancelled due to the weather.
Victoria Murphy, Town & Country Contributing Editor, reported on the British Royal Family since 2010 and was a frequent contributor to Good Morning America. She authored the Town & Country book 'The Queen: A Life in Pictures,' released in 2021.
St George's Chapel was also the location for Prince Harry and Meghan's wedding in 2018, further emphasising its significance in British royal history. The King George VI Memorial Chapel, commissioned by Queen Elizabeth in 1962 as a burial place for herself and her family, continues to serve as a testament to the enduring legacy of the British monarchy.
