Trump concludes his UK state visit expressing appreciation towards the host country, while largely avoiding controversial topics
During his second state visit to the United Kingdom, President Donald Trump signed a historic agreement on science and technology with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The agreement, which includes a UK arm of Stargate, a Trump-backed AI infrastructure project led by OpenAI, is expected to lead to significant job gains.
The Trumps were feted at Windsor Castle with a military honor guard, the biggest ever assembled for a state visit. Despite some controversies, the visit was marked by pageantry and splendor.
One such controversy involved a stunt where an image of Trump and Jeffrey Epstein was projected on a tower at Windsor Castle. Four people were arrested in connection with the incident. During the trip, Trump largely avoided questions about Epstein.
Trump and Starmer also discussed other pressing issues, including wars in Ukraine and Gaza, as well as US tariff rates on steel imported from Britain. The discussions regarding the tariffs were part of the negotiations that took place during the visit.
In a positive note, US companies pledged a substantial investment in the UK. The investment, totalling 150 billion pounds ($204 billion), includes 90 billion pounds ($122 billion) from investment firm Blackstone in the next decade.
The historic agreement on science and technology marks a significant milestone in the relationship between the two nations. Trump called the king and queen of England "two fantastic people," expressing his gratitude for the warm welcome he received during his visit. The visit concluded with Trump expressing his appreciation for the pageantry and splendor he experienced during his stay in the UK.
