Trump concludes his 30th week in the White House with a 'warm' high-stakes encounter with Putin.
In a series of recent announcements, President Donald Trump has outlined several initiatives aimed at celebrating American exceptionalism, bolstering federal law enforcement in the nation's capital, and reviewing the exhibits and materials at the Smithsonian museums.
On Tuesday, the White House announced a review of Smithsonian museums and exhibits leading up to the 250th birthday of the United States in 2026. The review is in response to President Trump's desire for a fair portrayal of American history in the museums. The Smithsonian Institution, which oversees the museums, stated that its work is grounded in a deep commitment to scholarly excellence, rigorous research, and the accurate, factual presentation of history.
The review will involve examining social media, exhibition text, and educational materials to assess tone, historical framing, and alignment with American ideals. The Smithsonian National Museum of American History was mentioned in the context of the review.
Meanwhile, President Trump has already bolstered federal law enforcement presence in the nation's capital on Saturday. On Monday, he announced that he would take control of the Metropolitan Police Department and deploy the National Guard to address crime in Washington, D.C. Trump stated that the National Guard would be allowed to do their job properly in addressing crime in the city.
In a separate development, President Donald Trump greeted Russia's President Vladimir Putin on August 15, 2025, at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. The meeting did not result in a peace agreement, but Trump stated that a visit by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the White House in Washington is scheduled for Monday. Trump gave an exclusive interview to our website host Sean Hannity, discussing the meetings with Putin and the potential for a deal to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.
The current status of peace talks between Ukraine and Russia is that negotiations remain ongoing but challenging. While dialogue continues with some progress on preparatory work, there is no clear breakthrough or ceasefire yet, and substantive peace talks are being prepared carefully at a high diplomatic level.
A photograph of the meeting between Trump and Putin was taken by Julia Demaree Nikhinson. The review was announced in a letter sent by the White House on Tuesday. The Smithsonian will coordinate with the White House, Congress, and its governing Board of Regents on the matter.
The initiative aims to ensure alignment with the President's directive to celebrate American exceptionalism, remove divisive or partisan narratives, and restore confidence in cultural institutions. The review is taking place before the America 250 celebration in 2026.
