In a series of legal developments, the appeals court has rejected U.S. President Donald Trump's appeal to reinstate the dismissal of Lisa Cook from her position at the Federal Reserve (Fed). This decision continues to block Trump from firing Cook.

The legal dispute began last month when Trump announced Cook's dismissal, citing suspected false statements in one or more mortgage contracts as the reason. However, Cook has denied these allegations, stating that the false statements, if they occurred, happened years before she joined the Fed, during a private mortgage process.

Cook's lawyers have threatened legal action, arguing that Trump does not have the authority to dismiss her. This argument seems to have found support in the courts so far, with judges blocking Trump's plans to dismiss Cook.

The judge in the case stated that the U.S. President can only dismiss a member of the Fed board for "good cause." The judge further argued that behaviour before taking office does not constitute good cause for dismissal.

The Fed plays a significant role worldwide, contributing to the financial stability of the United States. The central bank of the country aims to maintain its independence, a principle that has been upheld by the courts in this case. The judge wrote that the public interest in the independence of the Fed supports reinstating Cook.

Trump has been putting pressure on the Fed for some time, including calling for the resignation of Jerome Powell, the Fed chairman. However, it is still unclear whether Trump has the legal power to dismiss Powell.

Trump has appealed to the Supreme Court over the dismissal of Lisa Cook, but the appeals court's decision continues to stand. It remains to be seen how this legal battle will unfold in the coming days.

In the meantime, Cook continues to serve at the Fed, maintaining the stability and independence of the institution that plays a crucial role in the global economy.
