In a shocking turn of events, Jimmy Kimmel Live! has been suspended indefinitely following controversial remarks made by the host. The decision was announced by ABC on Wednesday, September 17.

During his Monday, September 15 broadcast, Kimmel accused MAGA supporters of trying to score political points from the murder of Charlie Kirk, a conservative commentator and founder of Turning Point USA. His monologue directly referenced Trump's "Make America Great Again" supporters and Kirk's assassination.

This move was met with strong criticism from several quarters. Brendan Carr, the chairman of the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) appointed by Donald Trump, called Kimmel's statements "sick" and urged local broadcasters to stop airing "Jimmy Kimmel Live!". Federal Communications Commission chair Carr even threatened fines or license revocation if the show continued to air.

Nexstar Media, one of the largest U.S. station owners, announced it would stop airing Jimmy Kimmel Live! nationwide. Sinclair Broadcast Group, which owns the most ABC affiliates, announced plans to air a tribute to Charlie Kirk during Kimmel's timeslot, a move that is not a regular occurrence but specifically in response to Kirk's death.

Jimmy Kimmel's mocking of Trump's grief over Charlie Kirk's death was not a one-time occurrence, but happened multiple times. Trump publicly expressed his support for ABC's suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and also criticized NBC's late-night lineup, stating that Jimmy and Seth have poor ratings.

US President Donald Trump had previously promised to award Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal posthumously after his death on September 10. Kimmel dismissed Vice President JD Vance's claims as "complete bullshit" during his monologues, after Vance blamed the left without evidence.

In a statement on Wednesday, September 17, a spokesperson for Disney's ABC addressed the suspension, stating, "Jimmy Kimmel Live! has been suspended following an on-air discussion about recent tragic events. We are reviewing the matter."

As of now, Jimmy Kimmel has not publicly commented on the suspension of his show. The suspension comes two months after Donald Trump warned that Kimmel could be next, following the cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert two months ago.
