Trump announces extension of 50-day truce deadline through Putin, concerning Ukraine.

In a significant development, US President Donald Trump is meeting behind closed doors with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Scotland. The focus of the meeting extends beyond bilateral matters, as the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip forms a crucial part of the discussions.

The Gaza Strip is currently grappling with a severe humanitarian crisis, marked by escalating malnutrition, widespread food insecurity, and a strain on health and sanitation systems. Malnutrition rates have reached alarming levels, particularly affecting children and pregnant or breastfeeding women, pushing Gaza's fragile health system close to collapse.

More than 500,000 people face famine-like conditions, and acute malnutrition is rising at an unprecedented rate, with reports of starvation deaths occurring. International organizations, including the World Health Organization (WHO), World Food Programme (WFP), and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), are actively responding by delivering food aid and medical supplies.

Despite ongoing military and security challenges, WFP has fed over 1.3 million people but faces dangerous conditions including attacks on convoys. Israel has announced preparations to implement humanitarian pauses and establish humanitarian corridors to enable safer delivery of aid, a key step supported by WFP to facilitate access.

The WHO calls urgently for consistent, unhindered delivery of diverse nutritious food, therapeutic supplies, and essential medicines, along with the protection of civilians and health workers. They also demand the release of hostages and an immediate ceasefire to alleviate the crisis.

The death toll is high, with tens of thousands of Palestinians killed and many more injured since the conflict intensified in October 2023, according to official Gaza Ministry of Health and humanitarian reporting.

Trump's meeting with Starmer is not the only international response to the crisis. Russia's operation to encircle the strategic city of Pokrovsk, according to Ukraine, has been met with criticism from Trump, who has expressed concern about the situation and criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin for his lack of interest in reaching an agreement.

Elsewhere, the political leader of M23 warns that he will not withdraw from his conquered territories in DRC, adding to the complex geopolitical landscape. In a positive note, Samsung has announced a deal worth $16.5 billion to manufacture AI chips for Tesla, a move that could have significant implications for the technology sector.

In summary, the Gaza Strip is experiencing severe humanitarian distress. International leaders, organizations, and companies are working to provide emergency aid, negotiate humanitarian pauses, and advocate for civilian protection, but the situation remains dire and highly volatile. Sustained humanitarian access and ceasefire are critical to prevent further loss of life and irreversible damage, especially among vulnerable populations.
