Trump and Xi have agreed to a summit meeting during the APEC conference in South Korea.
The APEC summit, held in Gyeongju, South Korea, in November 2025, was a significant event that brought together leaders from Asia-Pacific economies. This summit served as a platform for discussing economic and cultural issues in the region.
Gyeongju, known as Korea's capital of ancient culture, offered a unique backdrop for the event. The city is home to numerous cultural sites, including the impressive Bulguksa Temple.
At the summit, the best of Korean culture was showcased, with cultural leaders from APEC countries leading the discussions. One of the key topics of discussion was the economic potential of creative industries. The creative industries, including art, design, entertainment, and media, are increasingly recognised as a significant contributor to the economy.
However, the summit was not expected to host a U.S.-North Korea summit at this time. The foreign minister has stated that the possibility of such a meeting at APEC is currently low.
Despite this, the APEC summit in Gyeongju proved to be a valuable platform for discussing the economic opportunities of creative industries and showcasing Korean culture. The event underscored the importance of cultural exchange and economic development in the Asia-Pacific region.
