Trump alleges Soros finances protests, pledges RICO probe into his activities
In a recent development, President Donald Trump has announced an investigation into multi-billionaire George Soros over allegations of funding organized protests across the country. The announcement was made on "Fox and Friends."
The investigation comes after Trump was confronted by protesters at an upscale D.C. restaurant, and follows political activist Charlie Kirk's shooting at an event at Utah Valley University. Trump has accused the radical left of demonizing those with whom they disagree, stating that this kind of rhetoric is directly responsible for the terrorism in the country.
The protesters, who were cheering "free Palestine" and calling Trump Hitler, were responsible for organizing the Free D.C. protests in Washington. The investigations suggest that Community Change and Community Change Action, two left-leaning non-profits, received $4 million from The Open Society Foundations in 2023, and are believed to be connected to the protests.
However, The Open Society Foundations, founded by George Soros, have stated that they do not support or finance violent protests. Fact-checks have debunked claims that NGOs funded by Soros's foundations organized or incited violence during protests in Washington, D.C. The Open Society Foundations focus on promoting human rights, justice, and democracy globally, but there is no verified evidence that any organizations financially supported by Soros's foundations organized the protests in Washington, D.C. in 2023.
Alex Soros, the chair of the board of directors for the Open Society Foundations, has been a supporter of left-leaning non-profits. Trump has previously called for an investigation into Soros and his son for supporting violent protests, citing the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) as a possible law to be used in the investigation. The RICO Act targets illegal activities such as money laundering, bribery, and extortion.
The investigation does not specify any illegal activities by Soros, but rather focuses on his funding of protests. Trump has questioned if the protesters were paid, implying that Soros might be financing left-leaning protests. The investigation's outcome remains uncertain, but it has raised security concerns for the White House due to the potential involvement of protesters near the President.
George Soros donated $128.5 million to the Democratic Party during the 2022 midterms, but the investigation does not seem to be directly related to political donations. As the investigation unfolds, it will be interesting to see how the allegations against Soros are substantiated, if at all.
