Trump advocates for supplying food to people in Gaza
In a bid to alleviate the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, US President Donald Trump has announced a new initiative to deliver aid directly to the people of Gaza while preventing Hamas from seizing and selling relief supplies.
The initiative, which remains in development, focuses on supporting the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), an American non-profit organization that will be charged with distributing most of the aid. The Trump administration, together with Israel, backs this foundation to address the ongoing issue of aid diversion by Hamas.
The announcement comes amidst severe humanitarian conditions in Gaza, where one in four people face famine-like conditions, and many suffer from acute malnutrition, with starvation deaths ongoing daily. The crisis has been exacerbated by the Israeli government's blockade and military operations, which until recently severely hindered aid delivery.
Trump's initiative seeks to resume unimpeded humanitarian aid delivery while addressing the challenge of Hamas's interference and exploitation of aid resources. The aim is to ensure that aid is effectively and securely delivered to civilians, minimizing aid diversion by Hamas.
During an interview with NBC News, Trump addressed the situation in Gaza, stating, "We want to make sure people get fed." He expressed concern over reports of starvation in Gaza and blamed Hamas for impeding international relief efforts by seizing and selling aid.
Trump has stated that the US is prepared to increase its aid to Gaza and has urged Israel and other Western nations to contribute their share. However, it remains unclear whether the new aid effort will expand support for GHF or include other humanitarian channels.
The initiative has faced criticism for requiring civilians to travel through dangerous areas to access food and medical supplies. Despite this, Trump trusts Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to administer US aid in Gaza, but remains concerned about Hamas stealing aid.
Trump's meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem did not elaborate on the possibility of shifting from incremental ceasefire agreements to a more comprehensive arrangement. The White House envoy Steve Witkoff and US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee have visited aid centers in Gaza operated by the GHF to assess the situation on the ground.
Following Witkoff's assessment, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced that Trump intends to approve a new aid plan for Gaza. The details of the plan are yet to be finalized, but the focus remains on ensuring that aid reaches those in need without Hamas looting it.

The Trump administration's new aid initiative for Gaza, as announced by President Trump, aims to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in the region while preventing Hamas from interfering with the relief supplies. This initiative, in alignment with Israel, supports the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) to address the ongoing issue of aid diversion by Hamas.
Amidst the severe humanitarian conditions in Gaza, the initiative also focuses on general news, politics, and crime-and-justice issues, as West nations are urged to contribute their share, while concerns about Hamas's interference and exploitation of aid resources persist.
