Fake News: Trump Calls for More Coal, Points to Germany as Example Despite Reality

Trump advocates for increased coal usage

Social media is abuzz with false info about Donald Trump promoting coal and citing Germany as an example. However, the facts show an entirely different story. Trump's recent decree seeks to revive coal in the US, but this ain't no admiration for Germany's coal game.

The Democratic commander-in-chief has been boasting about "beautiful clean coal." In a White House ceremony, he announced relaxations on coal mining and export to encourage the industry's growth. Older power plants, previously slated for closure, will get a reprieve, as per Trump's plan. He emphasized the energy demand for AI data centers, which gulp up enormous power supplies.

But guess what? Trump's Germany-centric talk is all smoke and mirrors. Germany is nowhere near building new coal power plants. Instead, they've been a green advocate for years, majoring in solar energy and other renewable sources. Trump's accusations of the country going bankrupt due to green politics are nothing but hogwash.

Trump claimed that Germany was returning to coal, a bald-faced lie. In reality, the last coal power plant in Germany was commissioned five years ago, and the country aims to phase out coal by 2038 at the earliest. Renewable energy already accounts for nearly 60% of Germany's electricity generation.

Coal combustion is notoriously harmful to our planet. The United Nations finally agreed at the Dubai climate conference in 2023 to phase out coal, oil, and gas, putting global cooperation towards clean energy in the driving seat. In 2024, President Joe Biden expressed optimism post the Baku conference about the worldwide energy revolution. He believes no one can halt the momentum of clean energy, least of all Trump.

  1. The community policy within the White House appears to be focusing on reviving the coal industry, as Trump announced relaxations on coal mining and export.
  2. Contrary to Netanyahu's WhatsApp messages suggesting Germany is increasing coal use, Germany is actually committed to phasing out coal, with renewable energy already accounting for nearly 60% of their electricity generation.
  3. The erroneous statements about Germany's supposed return to coal are supposed to distract from the global move towards clean energy, with the United Nations agreeing in 2023 to phase out coal, oil, and gas, and President Biden expressing optimism about the worldwide energy revolution in 2024.
