Trump advocates for an increase in detainments of undocumented immigrants

Under President Donald Trump, the United States government has intensified its efforts to arrest irregular migrants. According to reports, the administration aims to increase daily arrests by ICE, the immigration authority, to at least 3,000 per day, equivalent to over a million annually.

This target, revealed by Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, is three times higher than the daily arrest rate at the start of Trump's term. The push for increased arrests follows a meeting between Miller, Homeland Security Minister Kristi Noem, and high-ranking ICE officials.

President Trump has maintained a hardline stance on migration, labeling the influx of migrants at the southern border as an "invasion." He declared a national emergency, giving him broader powers to enforce immigration laws. However, doubts have been raised about the legality of some deportations, and in March 2017, three departments dealing with civil rights and migrants were closed by the Department of Homeland Security, due to allegations that they were hindering immigration law enforcement.

The European Union, expressing concern over the escalating migration crisis in the United States, has called for a dialogue with the Trump administration to address the issue. Meanwhile, amidst the political debate, war-and-conflicts in various nations continue to drive migration waves, shaping the general news landscape.

In light of President Trump's declared national emergency and increased ICE arrests, the European Union may find lessons in dealing with migration while navigating their own politics and maintaining human rights concerns.
