Trump advocates against Ukraine launching attacks on Moscow
In the heart of Europe, the conflict between Ukraine and Russia continues to escalate, with significant military activities and territorial gains by Russian forces. As of mid-July 2025, Russian forces occupy approximately 114,016 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory.
The conflict, ongoing for more than three years, has taken a turn with the United States and NATO taking a more active role. President Donald Trump announced a deal to send weapons to Ukraine, marking a shift in Trump's stance, now focusing on Russia's role in prolonging the conflict. This decision comes after intense discussions with NATO's Secretary General, Mark Rutte, regarding support for Ukraine.
Ukraine, in response, has intensified its efforts to intercept Russian drones and missiles. In a notable instance, Ukraine managed to intercept 478 projectiles out of over 500 during a coordinated attack in July.
Russia, on the other hand, continues to claim large areas of Ukrainian territory and demands a halt to NATO's eastward expansion. The country has rejected calls for a ceasefire and launched a record number of drones and missiles at Ukraine in recent months.
The U.S. and NATO have imposed economic sanctions on Russia, with recent announcements including 100% tariffs if a ceasefire is not reached within 50 days. Countries like Belarus have provided direct support to Russia, while Iran has been accused of supplying military equipment.
The conflict has created significant economic and political tensions, with reactions felt in global markets and diplomatic circles. Trump has been pushing allies to increase defense spending and buy from U.S. manufacturers.
In a bid to alleviate some of the financial burden, the EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas called for the United States to help fund the new weapons being sent to Ukraine. Denmark, the Netherlands, and Sweden have also expressed interest in participating in Trump's plan to supply weapons to Ukraine.
Sweden's Defense Minister Pal Jonson stated that his country would contribute, acknowledging that Ukraine is in "great need of more air defense" due to Russia's constant bombings and attacks.
The ongoing conflict has taken a heavy toll on civilians. At least 12 people were wounded in Russian overnight strikes on Ukraine, including a 17-year-old boy in Kryvyi Rig who is fighting for his life after a building was destroyed by Russian missile and drone strikes.
Under pressure from Trump, Moscow and Kiev opened talks, the only concrete result of which has been prisoner exchanges. However, the deadline for a ceasefire set by Trump has passed, and the conflict continues. Trump warned that he would slap severe tariffs on Russia's remaining trade partners if no deal was concluded.
The situation remains tense, with both sides showing no signs of backing down. The international community continues to watch closely, hoping for a peaceful resolution to this long-standing conflict.
The United States and NATO, engaging more deeply in the war-and-conflicts, have imposed economic sanctions on Russia and are providing weapons to Ukraine following intense debates about supporting the country. Simultaneously, politics in global circles have been heavily influenced by this conflict, with Trump pushing for allies to increase defense spending and expedite weapons deliveries to Ukraine.
Crime-and-justice have been exacerbated as a result of the ongoing conflict, as Russia continues to claim large areas of Ukrainian territory, launching a record number of drones and missiles at Ukraine. These actions have led to significant civilian casualties, with reports of wounded civilians and destroyed buildings in Ukrainian cities.
