Trump Abandons Participation in Snooker Tournament in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
In the 2025 Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters, held in Jeddah, English snooker legend Judd Trump suffered an early exit, losing 5-3 to Oliver Lines in the fifth round (last 32). Lines' victory propelled him into the next round, marking a significant milestone in his tournament run.
Trump, the defending champion, had won the inaugural edition of the tournament last season in an epic final against Mark Williams. However, this year, his reign came to an end in the opening round. Trump expressed disappointment over his loss but acknowledged that losing is part of the sport.
Meanwhile, other notable players in the tournament were making their mark. Ronnie O'Sullivan, the English snooker legend, defeated Joe O'Connor 5-0 in his match, confirming his potential to compete strongly for the title. O'Sullivan went on to win his quarter-final against Kyren Wilson 6-5, reaching the semi-finals.
Chinese world champion Zhao Xintong also delivered an exceptional performance, beating England's Steven Holworth 5-0. Zhao's victory confirmed his potential to challenge for the title. Shaun Murphy, another contender, recorded a 5-1 victory over Thepchaiya Un-Nooh, with top breaks of 125, 66, and 118.
Mark Williams, ranked third in the world, advanced to the last 16 with a 5-3 victory over Yuan Sijun. World No.4 John Higgins was also eliminated from the tournament in the opening round, losing 4-5 to Elliot Slessor.
As the tournament progressed, it became clear that the 2025 Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters was shaping up to be a thrilling event. Despite Trump's early exit, the tournament continued to captivate audiences with its exciting matches and high-quality snooker.
