Truck driver survives icy crash after timber transporter flips into stream

A 33-year-old truck driver from Lower Austria was seriously injured after his vehicle crashed in Upper Styria early Thursday morning. The incident happened along the L 113 road near Mürzzuschlag, where black ice likely caused the driver to lose control of his empty timber transporter.

The crash took place around kilometer marker 3.4 in Dobrein. The truck veered off the road, crossed a steep meadow, and rolled into a nearby stream, landing on its side. The driver alerted his employer in Lower Austria, who immediately contacted emergency services.

The Mürzsteg fire department and Kindberg-Stadt fire brigade arrived at the scene to manage potential oil contamination. Meanwhile, the injured driver was rushed to Leoben Hospital (LKH Hochsteiermark), where he received treatment for minor injuries under the care of Otmar Schindler, head of the Department for Internal Medicine and Pneumology.

A tow truck later recovered the damaged vehicle from the stream.

The driver's injuries were confirmed as minor, and he remains under medical observation. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, with black ice considered a likely factor. The road has since been cleared, and no further hazards were reported.
