Truck driver helps young boy found alone on busy median in the rain
A 12-year-old boy was found alone on a busy median in Omaha during heavy rain, sparking a quick response from police and a passing truck driver. The child, identified as Henry “Hank” Fischer, had left his school bus following an argument with the driver and wandered into traffic while visibly upset.
The incident unfolded on October 14, 2024, along Dodge Street. Hank, carrying a small bag with Pull-Ups and spare clothes, stepped off the bus early and ended up stranded on the median. Dash camera footage later showed him barely visible in the downpour, vulnerable to passing vehicles.
Ed Coleman, a truck driver, spotted the boy and immediately pulled over. He wrapped Hank in a blanket to shield him from the rain and called the police. While waiting for officers to arrive, Coleman kept the child warm and dry inside his truck, even letting him watch a movie on his phone to stay calm. Authorities quickly located Hank’s parents and confirmed he was safe. The boy was soon reunited with his family after the brief but alarming ordeal.
The quick actions of Coleman and responding officers ensured Hank’s safety. Police confirmed no injuries and that the boy was returned home shortly after the incident. The case highlighted the risks of children wandering near busy roads, especially in poor weather.
