Troublemakers Climb High Ranks
In the heart of Bavaria, a series of events unfolded that would forever change the landscape of local football. The Pandurens, a football club based in Amberg, achieved promotion to the Landesliga, marking the culmination of a successful season.
The journey began in the 1981/82 season, a period when the Bayernliga champion had to go through a promotion round to move up to the 2nd Bundesliga rather than direct promotion. Despite initial uncertainty, the Pandurens managed to secure their place in the North District League after a series of five consecutive wins.
The 1982/83 season saw the Pandurens continue their success story. Led by striker Rudi Buberl and coach Peter Bogner, the team dominated the North District League, losing only two games and securing the title. The highlight of the season was their promotion to the Landesliga, achieved after a thrilling playoff game in Schwandorf where they defeated South champions TB Regenstauf 2:1.
However, detailed records and information about the specific team members and coach during that promotion campaign are scarce. Sources mainly discuss the structure and promotion rules of the Bayernliga and Oberliga in Bavaria during that period but do not mention Amberg or details of its football team. Specialised Bavarian football archives or local Amberg sports records from the early 1980s would be the best sources to research the team’s specific history, squad, and coach during that promotion campaign.
Meanwhile, the Pandurens were able to hold their own in the Landesliga for two seasons before further promotions or relegations are documented.
Elsewhere in Bavaria, a drug find occurred during a control at Nabburg station involving a teenager and a man. Both faces charges for the incident. A thick cloud of smoke rose in the north of Aschaffenburg due to a large fire at a waste disposal company. A woman was saved by mountain rescue in the Chiemgau Alps due to exhaustion, and another woman was harassed and pushed to the ground while walking her dog but was saved by her dog and a bystander.
Infrastructure developments were also underway, with the B 299 between Mitterteich and Waldsassen closed since August 1, causing doubts about construction progress. The new Ostbayernring is being constructed in the Landkreis Neustadt/WN, with bridge scaffolding visible on roads and power line cables being pulled along the route. Initial measures against unwanted detour traffic have been taken due to the closure of B 299, and repeated violations of traffic signs by drivers have occurred during the closure.
