Tropical Storm Dexter loses strength as it drifts away from the United States, with two potential storms in the Atlantic being closely watched.

Tropical Storm Dexter is currently moving northeastward over the open Atlantic, according to the latest reports from the National Hurricane Center (NHC). The storm, which was located northeast of Bermuda, is expected to remain over open waters with little change in strength initially but some re-strengthening as it transitions into an extratropical cyclone.

The system's movement is expected to be generally west-northwestward during the next few days. As of Tuesday morning, Dexter's sustained winds have dropped to 40 mph.

While Dexter is forecast to move away from the U.S. East Coast, its presence could still cause seas to kick up along parts of the northeastern U.S. and eastern Canada. Residents in these areas are advised to monitor its progress.

In addition to Tropical Storm Dexter, another system is being monitored by the NHC. A tropical wave over the far eastern tropical Atlantic has a medium potential (50% chance) of development into a tropical depression over the next seven days. This system is expected to slowly develop as it moves west-northwest in a favorable environment for tropical formation.

The National Hurricane Center expects environmental conditions to be conducive for the gradual development of this system during the next few days. However, the exact path and intensity of the system are still uncertain and subject to change.

Lissette Gonzalez, the morning and noon meteorologist for our4 News, is providing updates on both systems. The NHC will continue to monitor the development of both systems and provide updates as more information becomes available.

It is important to note that residents along the eastern U.S. and eastern Canada should remain vigilant and prepared for any potential impacts from these systems. If you live in an area that could be affected, it is recommended that you have a hurricane preparedness plan in place and that you stay informed of the latest forecasts and advisories.
