Last night was a thrilling ride for poker enthusiasts as Spartan Poker's signature 5 for 5 INR 5 Lakhs for the top 5 players tournament took place. As always, this monthly event unfolded on Sunday evening, attracting a whopping 739 entries (119 re-entries, 264 re-buys) and creating an impressive prize pool.
The tourney commenced at 6 pm and wrapped up at 2:35 am, following an intense, eight-and-a-half-hour marathon of poker. Among the winners, Gokul Raj has built a strong reputation for himself. With wins like the recent IOPC SHR (INR 28+ Lakhs) last month, he's been dominating the scene. Gokul has claimed feature tournament titles across premier platforms, including Adda52's Godfather and Mega Suits in December of last year. Bibek Karki, another winner, is a seasoned player with deep runs in poker tournaments. In November 2018, he participated in the 2018 WPTDS India Main Event and finished in 21st place, earning INR 2.99 Lakhs. Online, Bibek has an IOPC title under his belt, which he won back in July 2018. Yesterday's win further boosts his impressive bankroll.
Karki shared his thoughts on the win with us, stating, "I late-registered in the 5 For 5 and managed to pull off great runs despite having being as low as 8 big blinds at one point. I enjoyed the experience of playing a tournament where I didn't need to win. I had a huge chip lead in the Final Table and was simply raising any two cards and calling with mediocre hands, since no one wanted to risk getting eliminated. I took it upon myself to bust the smaller stacks. It was an exciting tournament after my disappointing end to the Game Changer."
With its reputation as one of India's biggest regular tournaments, the 5 For 5 attracted top Indian poker pros and regulars eager to join the action.
