Pedro Pichardo secured a historic double as he won the men's triple jump gold at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon. The Portuguese athlete, who also won the Olympic title in this discipline four years ago, clinched the victory with a final jump of 17.91 meters, regaining the lead from Andrea Dallavalle of Italy who had earlier set a personal best of 17.64 meters.

In the women's 400m hurdles, Femke Bol of the Netherlands retained her title, while Alison dos Santos claimed the silver. The race lacked the drama of the men's event due to the absence of superstar Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, who instead won the flat 400m race on Thursday.

Rai Benjamin added the world title to his Olympic gold from last year, winning the men's 400m hurdles. Benjamin, who struggled in the event at the Olympics four years ago, hitting the third hurdle and slumping to the ground at the finish, put in a strong performance to secure the victory.

Frederick Jefferson-Woods became the first double champion since Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce in 2013, winning the 100m race. Jefferson-Woods, who expressed interest in participating in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, stated, "I am now looking forward to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. I definitely put a target on my back."

Noah Lyles won the 200m race, securing a fourth successive 200m crown. Lyles, who hugged his mum Keisha Caine Bishop after his win, expressed contrasting feelings to those after winning Olympic bronze in 2021.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen of Norway only qualified for the 5,000m final by the skin of his teeth. Ingebrigtsen, who mentioned the possibility of a medal for Norway in the 5,000m final, but expressed doubt, saying, "Can it be a medal for Norway? I don't know, maybe. We will see."

Spectators took celebratory photos with Rai Benjamin, which can now be kept as a memento of the historic moment. Benjamin's win was a testament to his resilience and determination, proving that he is a force to be reckoned with in the world of athletics.
