Triumphant moments for Carleton Place Canoe Club athletes, as they shine both locally and globally.

Carleton Place Canoe Club Shines at Regional and National Competitions

The Carleton Place Canoe Club, a storied institution established in 1893 and located on the banks of the Mississippi River, has been making waves in the world of canoe sprint racing. Three of its athletes, Izzy Lowry, Evie McDonald, and Dyllan Redwood-Wheeler, recently competed in the 2025 ICF Junior and U23 Canoe Sprint World Championships held in Montemor-o-Velho, Portugal.

While details about their performances at the international championships were not available, the club's athletes have been consistently excelling in regional and national-level competitions. On August 6, the club hosted a pep rally to celebrate their successes this season and send off those participating in upcoming events.

Among the upcoming events, the Carleton Place Canoe Club will be participating in the Eastern Ontario Division Championships at Riverside Park as part of Carleton Place's Dog Days of Summer, and the EOD Nationals Qualifiers scheduled for July 26-27, 2025. They also took part in the Carleton Place Regatta and Mississauga Regatta earlier in August 2025.

The club's facilities were also used for a training camp by Ottawa-based women’s canoe athletes ahead of their competition in the 2025 Canada Summer Games in St. John's, Newfoundland, which took place in early to mid-August 2025.

Izzy Lowry, one of the club's standout athletes, secured triple gold medals in the C1 Junior Women 200 metres, C2 Junior Women 200 m (with Amélie Laliberté), and C4 Junior Women 500 m (with Amélie Laliberté, Grace Theunissen, and Madeleine Beauregard). Dyllan Redwood-Wheeler competed in two A finals, finishing fifth in the K4 Junior Men 500 m and eighth in the K2 Junior Men 500 m.

Evie McDonald, another talented athlete from the club, will be competing in the 2025 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships from Aug. 20 to Aug. 24 in Milan, Italy, racing with Team Canada. She participated in the C4 U23 Women 500 m (fifth), C2 U23 Women 200 m (eighth), and C2 U23 Women 500 m (ninth) at the World Championships in Portugal.

The achievements of these athletes have not gone unnoticed. Carleton Place Mayor Toby Randell extended congratulations on behalf of the council and the town for their outstanding results and hard work. The mayor emphasized the importance of hard work, dedication, and love for the sport in achieving success.

Three more athletes from the Carleton Place Canoe Club, Izzy Lowry, Abbie Haines, and Roenn Hodgins, have qualified for the Canoe Sprint Olympic Hopes Regatta in Racice, Czech Republic. This event is a preliminary junior worlds event for U16 and U17 athletes.

All three athletes are home-grown from the Carleton Place Canoe Club, a testament to the club's nurturing environment and commitment to developing young talent in canoe sprint racing.

  1. The Carleton Place Canoe Club's success in canoe sprint racing extends beyond regional and national competitions, as three of its athletes, Izzy Lowry, Evie McDonald, and Dyllan Redwood-Wheeler, are set to compete in the 2025 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championships in Milan, Italy, and the 2025 ICF Junior and U23 Canoe Sprint World Championships in Racice, Czech Republic, respectively.
