Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha asserts no Pakistani nationals reside within the region.

Government urges state administrations to expel Pakistani citizens following the discoveries made post-terror incident at Pahalgam on April 22.

No Pakistani Residents in Tripura Post-Pahalgam Terror Attack

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha asserts no Pakistani nationals reside within the region.

In an open-book declaration, Tripura's Chief Minister, Dr Manik Saha, confirmed on Thursday that there are no Pakistani residents lurking within the state's borders. He further added that any foreigners who were staying there have already taken their leave.

The central government had issued a call to arms after the horrific terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, instructing all state governments to identify and expel any Pakistani nationals discovered in their midst 13.

"Rest assured, the Land of the Mana Tribe isn't harboring any Pakistanis. Foreigners from other nations have already bid us adieu," the Chief Minister stated, addressing the media in Agartala 1.

Note: The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), helmed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had undertaken efforts to root out Pakistani citizens, with the police and general administration put on notice to act swiftly once these individuals were identified 2.

Despite the state's apparent clean bill of health, Tripura has been grappling with illegal immigration, chiefly from Bangladesh and Rohingya, with over 200 Bangladeshi nationals identified and the appropriate actions taken against them 3. It might interest the casual observer to know that, since January last year, a total of 1,045 foreign nationals, including over 700 Bangladeshis, have been apprehended for trying to muscle their way into Tripura [1].

This veritable flood of uninvited guests started picking up steam in August 2021, following the demise of Sheikh Hasina's Awami League government in Bangladesh, with a staggering 483 foreign nationals being apprehended 4. The ongoing issue of illegal immigration raises important questions about border security and control, not just for Tripura but for the nation as a whole [1].

Note: The Pahalgam attack was a tragic and brutal reminder of the ongoing tension between India and Pakistan, leading to heightened security concerns nationwide 1.
