Trio of French Strikers Face Intense Competition in Tottenham: Randal Kolo Muani, Mathys Tel, and Wilson Odobert
In the bustling world of Premier League football, Tottenham Hotspur finds itself in an intriguing predicament as it navigates the early stages of the 2022-2023 season. A host of French attackers, namely Kolo Muani, Tel, and Odobert, are vying for limited spots in the team's front line.
Kolo Muani, a 26-year-old loanee from Eintracht Frankfurt, joined the club on the last day of the transfer window. His arrival has added another layer to the competition, particularly as Danish coach Thomas Frank prefers powerful center-forward profiles who can harass opposing defenses and serve as a point of reference.
Tel, a 20-year-old academy product, has not had the smoothest start to the season. His missed penalty against Paris Saint-Germain in the European Super Cup did not help his case, and he was subsequently left out of the Champions League list. In Tottenham's first match of the season, Tel started against West Ham but managed only twenty touches in 78 minutes.
Odobert, also 20, stepped up in Tel's absence, replacing him against West Ham. Despite being a true winger, he finds himself on the Champions League list but knows he is not among the first choices. This summer, Tottenham made significant investments in attackers, making places even more scarce for the French trio.
Richarlison is considered the number one center-forward by Thomas Frank, and Kolo Muani's role may be more as a rest for the Brazilian international. Dominik Solanke, currently injured, is likely the number two center-forward. Meanwhile, Kudus, Brennan Johnson, Xavi Simons, and Dejan Kulusevski are ahead of Odobert in the pecking order.
The return of Kulusevski, expected in December, could potentially displace Kudus, Johnson, Simons, and Odobert in the right-wing position. Adam Daghim, who is expected to return from injury in December, could also factor into the equation.
Kolo Muani made his debut for Tottenham as a substitute in the Champions League match against Villarreal, replacing Richarlison in the 77th minute. He remains a promising prospect, with his space-oriented playing style potentially offering something different to the team.
As the season progresses, it will be interesting to see how this competition unfolds, with each player eager to secure a regular spot in the starting lineup. The race for the center-forward positions at Tottenham is undoubtedly one of the most captivating subplots of the season.
