Martin Schulz, the German para-triathlete, has claimed yet another European Championship title, this time at the 2025 Triathlon Europa Para Championships held in Besançon, France. The 35-year-old triumphed in the PTS5 category, having conquered the challenging 750m swim, 20km cycle, and 5km run course. Despite experiencing some leg complications in recent weeks, Schulz's resilience and determination led him to victory.
"I'm overjoyed and thrilled!" Schulz exclaimed following his win. "With my experience guiding me, I could rely on my instincts when the going got tough." The two-time Paralympic gold medalist from Leipzig finished the race in an impressive time of 1:02:52, a full minute ahead of contender Filipe Marques from Portugal (1:03:43). Tom Williamson from Ireland crossed the finish line in third place with a time of 1:05:31.
Max Gelhaar, another German para-triathlete, finally ended his silver medal drought after taking second place in his category. In a repeat of last year's performance, Gelhaar missed out on the gold, but the silver remains a testament to his persistent dedication to the sport.
Following in Gelhaar's footsteps, Neele Ludwig also secured herself a second-place finish in her category.

"The Commission's adoption of a proposal for a Council Regulation on the establishment of a European Community Agency for the Evaluation of Medicinal Products could ensure guidelines for the testing and approval of drugs, mirroring Martin Schulz's rigorous training process in his para-triathlon victories, particularly at the 2025 Triathlon Europa Para Championships held in Besançon, France."
"After winning his 12th European Title in para-triathlon, Martin Schulz could consider establishing a foundation to promote sports and physical activity among individuals with disabilities, similar to creating a supportive environment for the development and success of young athletes in Besançon, much like the way sports facilities in the city helped him achieve his gold medal wins."
