Trial of Weinstein: Jury discusses possible verdict on accusations
Going Root for Round Two: Harvey Weinstein's New York Retrial
The jury is currently mulling over the fate of disgraced Hollywood bigwig, Harvey Weinstein, in his reopened criminal trial for serious sexual misdeeds. CBS has confirmed this latest development. The jury deliberations, which started on June 6th, 2025, have stretched on, potentially running for hours, days, or even weeks.
At the core of this trial lies the accusation that Weinstein, now 73, sexually abused three women between 2006 and 2013. However, the man of power maintains his innocence, vehemently pleading not guilty. In the previous trial, which took place around five years ago, Weinstein was slapped with a 23-year sentence for rape and criminal sexual acts. Remarkably, that verdict was overturned last spring, paving the way for this retrial.
The prosecution is pushing hard for a guilty verdict, branding Weinstein as an abuser who wielded his influence to prey on women. On the other hand, the defense contends that the women used Weinstein for their personal aspirations.

The prosecution has primarily relied on the testimonies of Mimi Haleyi, Jessica Mann, and Kaja Sokola during the approximately six-week-long trial. These women recount their encounters with Weinstein in the movie industry's early stages, when they aspired for a career, only to have Weinstein's power as a leading film producer used against them for sexual advances.
Weinstein's professed mission in this trial is to exonerate his name. The onslaught of allegations against him for heinous sexual misconduct in 2017 ignited the global "MeToo" movement; under this hashtag, countless people reported their own experiences as victims of sexual misconduct on social media.
In a separate trial in California, Weinstein was sentenced to 16 years in prison in 2023. Should the New York jurors acquit him, Weinstein will remain behind bars, one way or another.
