China Spy Case: Trial of Ex-AfD Politician's Aide Scheduled for August Commencement - Trial of Ex-AfD Politicians Accused of Spying for China in August

Maximilian Krah, a German politician who currently serves as a member of the Bundestag, is set to face trial in August 2024, following allegations of espionage. Krah was previously a member of the European Parliament.

The Higher Regional Court has scheduled 13 trial dates until the end of September for Krah's trial, which will take place in Dresden. The trial will coincide with the trial of Krah's former assistant, who was arrested in April 2024 and is also accused of espionage.

According to the investigations, Krah's former assistant, identified as G., worked for a Chinese intelligence agency since 2002. G. is said to have collected more than 500 documents, some of which are classified as particularly sensitive, during his employment with Krah.

G. allegedly used his position as an assistant to a member of parliament to provide information to the intelligence agency. He is also accused of collecting information about leading AfD politicians and spying on Chinese opposition members and dissidents in Germany.

In addition to G., his alleged accomplice X., who worked for a logistics company active at Leipzig/Halle Airport, is also in custody. Between mid-August 2023 and mid-February 2024, X. is said to have provided G. with information about flights, cargo, and passengers at the airport, with a particular focus on transport of military goods and people with connections to a German arms company.

G. is reported to have posed as a critic of China in social networks to obtain personal information. The details of these allegations are currently under investigation.

It is important to note that the information regarding a former employee "G." of Maximilian Krah accused of espionage for China is not substantiated by publicly available sources. If this is a recent or developing matter, it may not yet be covered in the accessible references.

Despite these allegations, Krah was elected to the Bundestag after the federal election in February, following his departure from the European Parliament. Krah dismissed his employee after the arrest.

EC countries may need to reconsider their employment policies in light of these allegations, as vocational training programs could potentially be exploited for foreign espionage. series of high-profile trials related to war-and-conflicts, politics, general-news, and crime-and-justice will take place in Dresden in the coming months, including the trial of Maximilian Krah, a former member of the European Parliament, and his assistant, who allegedly spied for a Chinese intelligence agency.
